Artist’s Statement
My primary source of inspiration is the human head and face, focusing on form and surface decoration.
I construct each piece with slabs of clay, keeping the form relatively simple with minimum expressive detail, and use raku glaze to produce bold or intricate decoration. The unpredictable nature of raku firing provides an element of spontaneity, contrasting with the more controlled process of making.
I aim to produce work that is visually strong, yet able to evoke the various moods or emotions of the inner-self.
